You can’t be Christ-like if you are NOT willing to receive salvation AND walk as Christ did through functioning in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and manifesting works of the Holy Spirit.
(1 Corinthians 12) Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Unity and Diversity in One Body
12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many.
15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be?
20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
Earlier today I was digging through some papers I forgot I had printed out and found a stack of articles I had looked up when God was explaining to me (Proverbs 18:16) ” 16 A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” I heard and read the statement that your gifts will make room for you, meaning your God-given gift/ talent is what sets you up for your destiny. Its great to have an education, but your gift will take you further than your education ever will.
Recently I have taken a break from school which was arranged by God. This break was very unexpected, but God knows what He is doing. Since I’ve taken a break I’ve had more time to spend one-on-one time with the Lord and focus more on what He wants me to do. Yet, I’ve found myself focusing on other things like considering and looking up jobs, trying to get back in school, thinking about all that hasn’t happened for me and all that I lack at this time in my life. Rather than keeping trust and faith in God that He has everything under control, I wound up losing focus on Him and worrying again and trying to take matters into my own hands. I began thinking about the promises that God revealed to me and thinking well, if this is what I’m going to do then I need to do something about getting there. I began looking up jobs and realized that a lot of the positions required certain skills or an advanced degree. Each position I look at makes me more and more discouraged because I’m under qualified or lack the experience. I consider my own skills and experience and start to think what CAN I DO? I am capable doing anything if trained, but I lack the experience. What can I do? What can I DO….?
“Your gift can take you further than your education.”
What can I do? I wrote down what I was good at, the character traits that I always exhibited, what I’m passionate about. I wrote all these things and thought to myself this is all I can do, I don’t have any special talents to showcase or something that makes me look extraordinary or significant. What I can do anybody else can do, so what makes me so special or unique that makes me worthy of having or even doing any job? I’m either over qualified for simple jobs, under qualified for jobs needing advanced degrees, or I lack the experience for jobs I am qualified for.
I sat back and thought about the articles, “your gift can take you further than your education.” It’s not about looking like everyone else, impressing everyone else, or settling for anything you can just do because of your educational status. It’s about the gift(s) that God has given you. The gifts that God has given me is meant for a specific task that God has designed me for. Its not meant for me to try to be like everyone else or impress everyone. I always thought I was talentless because I couldn’t sing, I wasn’t artistic, not athletic, etc, etc. I always thought that having a talent was about being able to stand out and impress others with what you can do. This is such a terrible mindset to have. This mindset is so dangerous to have its keeps you from appreciating and UTILIZING your own gift(s). You can not be or act like someone you are not. “You’re never going to fully give yourself to what you need to do if you don’t stop comparing yourself to other people and what they can do.- Joyce Meyers” You have to appreciate your gift because that what brings you into your destiny.
My gifts/talent: I have always been a very helpful person. I always had an urge to assist people when I can. I take the time to listen when people need to talk. I’m very caring and nurturing. I’m a people person. I work well one-on-one with people. I’m pretty well organized. I love working with little kids and enjoy watching them learn and grow. Children are very impressionable and what happens during childhood makes a huge impact in how that child will be as an adult. I’m pretty persistent and determined about seeking out information or getting things done. These are my gifts and talents. It may not be much in my eyes, but in God’s eyes its the world. I realize and I surprisingly I prayed for this just LAST NIGHT, that God would renew my mind in any area that I needed my mind to be renewed in and He did. For as long as I can remember my gifts have made an impact in people’s lives. I have done maybe the smallest thing for someone and me not realizing or knowing that I had just blessed that person because I took the time to use my gifts in order to pour into that person. I was rewarded with praise and grace all because I used the gift that God has instilled in me. When we are not focused on God’s love and too caught up in the world we tend to forget our own worth and how valuable we are. We covet what we see, constantly comparing ourselves with others, and lose track of our own destiny. There are so many things we are taught to believe that are just not true. I understand now that I must trust in God that what He has instilled in me is great and wonderful and that no matter how much education, experience, or whatever job I try to get, no manmade job can fulfill the gift that is within me. I have to remember that what God has instilled in me is the job, is the experience, is MY CALLING to do. I realize that I do have a heavy calling on my life, but I have to remember that this calling is very important and its not for me to make it in the world or be like the world, but all for the Glory of God, the uplifting of the Kingdom of Heaven.
For those who are feeling the way that I just expressed in this message or you feel like you have tried and tried and nothing seems to work for you, one thing I want to tell you is that you are special and unique in your own way. God made you for a purpose. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Take the time to reflect on what you are good at, what you like to do, what is your passion and then ask God what are YOU supposed to do with the gifts/ talents He has lovingly and graciously given you. Continue to seek His face and know that He loves you and will never forsake you. Embrace your gift(s) and allow the Holy spirit to guide you in using your gifts. Be blessed!
(Proverbs 18:16) 16 A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.
Life is a such a competition especially here in the U.S. Everybody is trying to out do each other, trying to “keep up with the Jones’ and them”, or be the Jones; but the thing is what in life are we competing for? what is the prize , the end result? To able to say that you did better than somebody else. And what defines better? I know one thing, whatever we (people) are trying to compete for is not what God wants us to compete for. We are supposed to be competing for the Kingdom of Heaven, our ultimate treasure.
(1 Corinthians 9:24-25) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.
(Mark 8:36) 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
The best thing God does for us is providing us the opportunity be transformed into the new man by the renewing of our minds. Having a renewed mind is like a refreshing ice cold drink on a hot summer day for the spirit.
(Romans 12:2) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Yeah this is long over due……… I spoke this back on Feb. 28th. I began “thinking out loud” and was on a roll, so I decided to record myself. This is my “first” message. I pray you are blessed and not offended by the message.
